This location used to be the "Joe's Crab Shack" They kept a lot of that old rusty decor. The entire deal was a replica of Benihana but even more expensive. Service was friendly but the waitress was a bit aloof. The Hibachi chef was much more entertaining and engaging then at Benihana. Food was very tasty and the drinks were all right but something seemed amiss, I would rather go Benihana in Troy or Novi next. I don't even mind Shangri-La next time in the neighboring shopping complex but probably would not return to this location. Still overall, I would rate 4/5 as the Hibachi chef did a great job and cooked some really great food. Another issue is the host/hostess, we arrived right at our time as the highly recommend 24 hours or more advanced reservation but we had to wait for 15 minutes to sit even though the restaurant was half empty on a Friday night. The family who shared our table were already waiting for 20 minutes before us, so why make all of us wait? The host staff were not too inviting or friendly either

My husband and I went there last night to celebrate the birthday of a friend who actually made the reservation, in total we were 10 guests. This was the first time for all of us being there. I personally ordered Tempura Vegetable, edamame, fried rice as a side and stir fry vegetables. My husband ordered Avocado Sushi, fried noodles as a side, and fried tofu (he has Cronh's and if food has high amount of fiber, it will be a killer for him). While the taste was really good for everything we got the only think I was not too pleased it was the price. I get it, it should not be cheap. Fried tofu is just 4 little blocks for 4.50, it could have at least 2 more pieces. Three stars. I am giving four stars and the recognition goes to the chef. Not only his skills were amazing but also he made the evening even nicer. Thanks, Marvin. Food was delicious!

Came for Nabeyaki udon... Left most of it in bowl. Broth had no flavor and green peppers? No flavor....

My husband and I came here 6 months ago, which was my initial review experience. I decided to try it again, this time with my cousin visiting from California and my little sister. We were seated immediately upon arrival next to a family of 4 to get our hibachi started. We ordered our drinks, 2 rolls of sushi, the #12 Fuji Special Hibachi for 2 of us, and 1 chicken teriyaki. I was impressed at how quickly we were seated and had our order taken. In our previous experience, it took at least 10 minutes to get anything. Our water was brought out shortly, then our soups. The soup was very bland this time. It was basically a hot bowl of water, completely tasteless. The ginger salad came out after and even that didn't taste good. Ginger dressing usually has a strong flavor; this dressing had a faint taste atop sliced lettuce. Now it seemed the service was good and the food was bad. We received our order of sushi and I immediately noticed one of our rolls was the wrong roll. Our waitress also brought only one soy sauce tray for 3 of us eating sushi. When I turned around to let her know, she disappeared. I waited for 10 minutes and she never came back to the table, nor did we see her walk past for the rest of our dining experience. I walked up to the sushi bar and took two more trays and a low sodium soy sauce myself; I figured our waitress was going to be a while. We ended up just eating the Las Vegas roll, which was delicious, but I had ordered the Philadelphia roll... Our hibachi dinner was fun and started promptly. The food was prepared as we had ordered it and split evenly amongst us all. I noticed that they don't give as much food here as I've had at other hibachi restaurants. They give you a lot of vegetables to fill your plate, but skimp on the rice and meat. I didn't touch my plate to see how much food I'd end up with. It is still a lot of food, don't get me wrong, it's just after eating at Benihana's I have a carry out box filled with another full plate of leftovers. I didn't take home anything this time and was left with vegetables. During our dinner, my sister and I were out of water and so were 2 people in the other party across from us. All of us were constantly looking around for anyone to notice our waitress had disappeared through the entire duration of our dinner. Nobody. All of our plates were stacked around the table, nobody cared to clean them up. I was raised by a crazy clean mother and her OCD rubbed off on me. I cannot eat at a dinner table filled with dirty dishes. But here, we were forced to move them aside as nobody cared to pick them up so we could enjoy our dinner. When our waitress finally appeared about 15 minutes after we were all done eating, the gentleman from the other party asked for the bill immediately, and he was clearly upset. He even told her "I wanted some water a while ago, but I'll just take the bill." This caused her to scramble. She went back and brought a pitcher of water and refilled all of our glasses with a quickness, a little too late. I don't know who trains this wait staff. In the two times we've been here, the service has been slow and completely inattentive. Nobody cared to clean up, nobody cared to fill our waters, nobody cared to ask if we needed anything. I was so embarrassed to have talked up this experience to our guest, who has never been to a hibachi restaurant. What a joke. With all of the great restaurants in the area, this place can be avoided. They are truly lacking in service and food quality. What is a restaurant good for if they can't get those right? Needless to say, we will not be back.

This place is amazing! The staff was very knowledgeable and friendly, the sushi was very fresh and delicious, the drinks were refreshing and strong (but not too strong), and the hibachi meats and veggies were supreme!!! I will definitely be back and I would absolutely recommend this restaurant to family and friends!and other yelpers)

This location just opened up near my house and every time my sister and I passed it, we've wanted to check it out. After debating between Mon Jin Lau and this, it's easy to say we should've went with Mon Jin Lau (always a safe and delicious bet!). The service here was average. Our waitress was nice but nothing special, and the other workers kind of stood around awkwardly. I ordered the spicy Szechuan Beef, which, other than the broccoli and snap peas, was bland and chewy. Usually I finish food as a rule, I don't like things going to waste, but I could not finish this and I couldn't bring myself to take it home either. Very unsatisfied. My sister ordered the Sesame Chicken which I thought was better than my meal, but tasted like something you could get from any two-bit, chain Chinese restaurant. The food overall could be equated to this. The food was over expensive for the quality and there were a lot of extra charges for things that don't usually cost anything at other Asian restaurants. Overall, we were very unsatisfied with our meal and experience here and will not be dining again, nor do we recommend anyone to eat here.

Your standard hibachi place but much better than the chain. Started with a sushi roll, was very fresh and flavorful. All enjoyed. I ordered one of their cocktails, I think I had the cherry blossom or something, it was good. Different, well poured and not too sweet. My husband, parents and I all got hibachi dinner. The miso soup was good, better than most other hibachi places. The ginger salad was EXCELLENT. I don't know what they do to their dressing, but it was awesome. The rest of the food was good. A little too much butter, but it was well seasoned and everything seemed fresh. Service was good. Waitress was pleasant, and manager was very friendly even when we asked to have the channel changed so we could watch the Michigan game.

We thought we would try this location one more time....... Disappointed- Sushi is so fishy we can't eat it - -if it's even remotely fresh, it shouldn't smell or taste like that . On a Positive note- we ordered additional food- looked and smelled awesome. Service was good.

Great entertainment for the family and friends! Great and fresh food. We took a party of 12 and we all had great time. I don't like the one in Sterling Heights, but this one is top notch!!!

We've now been here twice: once for Hibachi and then again for Chinese. I would give it 5 stars for the Hibachi. They do a real, classic show: tossing shrimp, onion volcano, flying knives, etc. The Hibachi food was also really tasty (great miso soup, gingery salad, and the steak was great). Even the kids loved it and they are usually picky. BETTER THAN BENIHANA with a much shorter wait time. On the Chinese side of the restaurant we were a bit disappointed. The food was decent but nothing special, and you couldn't order from the hibachi menu as you can at other fusion restaurants. Bottom line: we will definitely be back, but only for the hibachi (which we are very excited to have in the area)!

We've been to this place twice and both times were just okay. Got sushi the first time and it was mediocre. Got Chinese sesame chicken the second time and it was subpar (I've had better versions at the mall). Also, the second time we went, the hostess was rude. So, at the end of our second visit, my wife and I agreed that we don't ever want to go back.

Loved the decor and friendly service here! I may even like the show better than at Benihana! Very kid friendly! The sushi was amazing, we had a deep fried roll. We ordered filet and scallops which were amazing, especially the scallops, nice big and fresh! The filet had a nice flavor too. I took away one star because of the chicken, I didn't like the taste. Next time veggie fried rice and my husband agreed he would avoid ordering chicken with his meal, but we both agreed we would be back!!!

I don't know about the Hibachi service here, but I can tell about Sashimi, the raw fish. I've been here at the end of December 2014, with my buddy and decided to order Sashimi dinner. After I saw the dish, I doubt it. the color of the fishes are not fresh! Then I took a bite of each pieces, and regretted it. It was awful, terrible, OMG. Even the ginger was horrible. my mouth was tortured by the bloody smell from the fishes and it kept viral all over in my mouth, even my throat. They don't know about the sashimi, my friend was a chef at Japanese restaurant, and kept apologizing that he brought us there. Though the waiter was generous, and tipped him with pleasurable amount, I felt awful through the night. It was waste of money. If you all here for the roll or other sushi, I recommend go to other place, rather than here. Moreover, it's kinda weird that they have several different countries cuisine; Chinese, Thai, Hibachi, and sushi in one place. Think about that. It's like Asian Coney Island, but worse than that. Thank you, and you're welcome.

I'll pass on this place in the future and expect my first visit to be my last. The newly renovated space greets you like an old school bar that's dark with laminate woodgrain tables. They actually have a decent drink menu but the bartender had to go and get the manager to find the right liquor and make the (very small) martini I ordered. We ordered our sushi rolls with spicy mayo and the sushi came out with a thin, pink sauce (I guess the spicy mayo?) almost completely covering the entire dish. It looked terrible but tasted ok. The other items we ordered were ok but the service was super slow and we just didn't get the impression that the team at Shogun is experienced in the restaurant business. The sushi wasn't good enough for take out in the future with a few other better places within a mile of Shogun.

I absolutely love Shogun in Sterling Heights, but sadly this new location is nothing like it! Like Brighton, this location offers yum yum sauce, but the quantity of vegetables on the combination plates is EXTREMELY small compared to the other locations. We had a coupon that stated it was valid at ALL Shogun locations, but the waitress told us, "No coupons." After a hassle with the manager the waitress let us know that the manager was "being nice" and gave us our discount, but we were told not to bring coupons again. Will do! I won't be back to West Bloomfield. I will take my cash and coupons to the best location, Sterling Heights.

My family went there on New Years Eve. The staff was friendly and professional. Our table-chef was so nice and the kids had so much fun with him. The food was tasty and the drinks were really good. Overall we had a really good experience and would go back again!

I ordered two hibachi dinners for take out from here tonight using a Groupon and was pleasantly surprised! The food was delicious! They offered a great variety of vegetables that were perfectly cooked (not overcooked and soggy) and fried rice that I gobbled up! I love their sauces too - the soy sauce has a hint of ginger and the mayo based sauce is sweet (not spicy). I only wished the meal came with a salad (as most other hibachis I've visited do) but maybe this is an option for dine in only. Will definitely go back to try more!

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
